The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to the public knowledge the following:

Mr. Tiberiu Mihail Nițu, General Prosecutor at the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice participated, during 08-09.10.2013, at the 8th Plenary Reunion of the Consultative Council of the European Prosecutors, event organized in Erevan, Armenia.

The main subject of the meeting was to deliberate the draft Opinion no. 8 on relations between prosecutors and the media, document issuing recommendations that pursue the facilitation of the media access to appropriate information, to promote suitable methods of communication between prosecutors and the media in compliance with both national laws as well as international obligations undertaken by each member of the Council of Europe.

The document aims to create a balance, on one hand, between the fundamental rights to freedom of expression and information guaranteed by art . 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, the right and duty of the media to inform the public about the judicial proceedings and, on the other hand, the guarantees which should offer the presumption of innocence, the right to a fair trial and respect for privacy of life and family established in art. 6 and 8 of the same document.
