PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

            The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Mehedinţi Tribunal requested the court to order the provisional arrest of the defendant MĂRĂŞESCU IULIAN (currently in custody) for having committed the crime of rape.

            The Magistrates of the Mehedinţi Tribunal allowed the proposal for the provisional arrest and ordered the issuance of a provisional arrest warrant, on the name of the defendant, for a period of 29 days.

            The pieces of evidence administered in the case up to this moment of the criminal investigation show that, on the night of 23.09.2012, around 21:30 hours, the defendant MĂRĂŞESCU IULIAN engaged, by coercion, in sexual intercourse with the minor M.D. (aged 12).

Investigations are underway for clearing all the factual circumstances and establishing the criminal liability.
