PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

Prosecutors within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Neamţ Tribunal requested the court of law, on August 26^th 2012, to order the provisional arrest of the defendant P.I. (aged 17), for having committed the crime of rape.

The magistrates of the Neamţ Tribunal allowed the request issued by the prosecutors and ordered the issuance of a 20-day provisional arrest warrant on the name of the defendant.

The pieces of evidence administrated in the case up to this moment of the criminal investigation revealed that, on October 26^th 2011, taking advantage of the impossibility of the victim (8 years of age) to defend herself and express her consent, the defendant enticed her into a storehouse, where he had sexual intercourse with her.

Under the same circumstances, on August 25^th 2012, the defendant P.I. allured another underage girl, aged 8, in a house under construction, where taking advantage of the impossibility of the victim to defend herself, he had sexual intercourse with her.

Investigations are underway in order to clarify all the factual circumstances and establish the criminal liability.
