PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

On 21.09.2012, the prosecutors within the Criminal Investigation and Forensics Section have ordered by resolution the beginning of the criminal investigation against the defendant ŞTEFĂNACHE GICĂ (judicial police officer of the Otopeni City Police) for perpetrating the offences of intellectual forgery, forgery of an official writing, use of forgery and aiding an offender, committed by the defendant while investigating a criminal file registered on the docket of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Buftea Court of Law.

The case investigated by the defendant consisted in the offences of rape, trespassing of property and destruction perpetrated by the defendant VLAD NICOLAE against the injured party P.S., defendant presently investigated while being in pre-trial arrest and also within the file generally known as “the case of the Japanese student murder” investigated by the prosecutors of the Criminal Investigation and Forensics Section from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.

The evidence produced in the case up to this stage of the criminal investigation have revealed the fact that while exercising his office duties, the defendant Ştefănache Gică has inserted within the content of a consignment report of the oral declaration given by the injured party P.S. (a report which the police officer has drafted and signed), mentions that were inconsistent with the reality.

At the same time, within the content of this report, the defendant ŞTEFĂNACHE GICĂ has forged the signatures within the columns “Assistant witness” and “Hearing of a person”, and then used this forged writing in order to substantiate his proposal of not to pursue the criminal investigation in the case mentioned before.

In this context, the defendant impeded the establishment criminal liability of the defendant VLAD NICOLAE, perpetrator of the offences of rape, trespassing of property and destruction.

The investigations in the case are ongoing and we will keep the public informed with its progress.
