PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

Taking into account the inquiries carried out in the case regarding the defendant Mihail BOLDEA, a Romanian MP, currently under investigation by the Galaţi Territorial Unit of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), and pursuant to the provisions of Article 65 (3) of the Law No. 304/2004, amended and republished, and to the provisions of Article 6 (e) of the Internal Regulations of prosecutor’s offices,

The Prosecutor-General of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Ms. Laura Codruţa Kövesi, has designated a prosecutor from the Criminal Investigation and Criminalistics Section within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice to carry out an operational control.

This operational control is aimed at establishing the ways of turning to account information and the measures ordered by the DIICOT prosecutors following the monitoring of the defendant Mihail BOLDEA for the period of time between March 16, 2012 when he was notified about the charge, and March 22, 2012 when the arrest warrant was issued in absentia.

We will keep the public informed about the result of the control.
