PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Office within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorised to release the following information:

Prosecutors of Brasov Minors and Family Tribunal requested the pre-trial arrest of defendant RUSU GELU OVIDI (currently held in custody) on charges of attempted rape.

 The judges of Brasov Minors and Family Tribunal accepted the prosecutors’ request and ordered that an arrest warrant be issued for the defendant for a period of 29 days.

 The criminal evidence gathered so far in this prosecution case shows that on September 11, 2012, around 15:00 hrs. the defendant, while in an apartment building in Brasov city, assaulted and forcefully carried the minor C.D.M (aged 10) to the basement of the building, meaning to force her into having sexual intercourse. He was stopped through the intervention of minor witnesses the victim had been playing with.

 Investigations are currently ongoing in order to clarify all factual circumstances and establish criminal liability.

On September 13, 2012, prosecutors of Suceava Tribunal requested in court the pre-trial arrest of defendant LUPĂESCU Afinel on charges of rape.

 The criminal evidence gathered so far in this prosecution case shows the following factual circumstances:

 During August-September 2012, the defendant repeatedly forced his 8-year-old daughter to have sexual intercourse with him, taking advantage of the victim’s impossibility to defend herself and express her will.

 Investigations are currently ongoing in order to clarify all factual circumstances and establish criminal liability.
