PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

A criminal file investigating the case of a teenage girl (aged 12) who had been chained to a bed by her right leg in a lodging in the locality Valul lui Traian has been docketed at the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Constanţa Tribunal today, July 28, 2011.

The case was initiated following intense media coverage and the alerting of the investigation authorities by the citizens.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the teenager S.C. had been held captive by her mother, the accused SELIM ATIGE, and her future father-in-law, the accused CERCHEZ RUBIE. The minor had been sold to be married to the minor AM aged 10 by her mother.

The prosecutors ordered the institution of legal proceedings against Selim Atige and Cerchez Rubie for assault and battery, illegal deprivation of liberty and bad treatment of minors. The two will be detained and will appear before the Magistrates of the Constanţa Local Court with a proposal for pretrial arrest.
