PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

On October 19, 2011, prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to Maramureş Tribunal submitted a request for the pretrial arrest of the defendant Ciprian Gabriel BERCHIŞ (in detention) for rape and sexual corruption.

The evidence produced so far during the criminal investigation shows that, in 2011, the defendant had repeated oral sexual intercourse with the injured party P.M.J.F. aged 3 years and 6 months, his wife’s daughter, taking advantage of her incapacity to express her will.

During the same period of time, he also performed obscene acts repeatedly on the minor who was in the care of her mother the latter’s husband.

Investigations are carried out to clarify the actual circumstances and to establish the legal liability.
