The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:
On October 17, 2011, prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Timiº Tribunal closed the indictment for the prosecution of the defendant Ecaterina MICU infanticide.
The evidence produced during the criminal investigation showed that, on April 6, 2011, in a garbage disposal site in the town of Buziaº, Timiº County, the body of a newborn (female) was discovered. The investigation revealed that the defendant had been registered on the family doctor’s records as pregnant, the pregnancy being no longer present. A medical legal examination was performed in the case – DNA test – which showed that the defendant Ecaterina Micu was the biological mother of the infant. The medical legal examination of the body revealed that the infant had been born alive and on term but survived only for 10 to 15 minutes after birth. Its death had been violent, caused by a craniocerebral trauma with skull cracks and hemorrhage produced by the hitting either with or against a hard object.
The case falls under the jurisdiction of the Timiº Tribunal.
