PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

Prosecutors of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Tulcea Tribunal requested, on 09.11.2011, the provisional arrest of the defendant PAVEL PETRE for having committed the offense of attempted aggravated murder.

The magistrates within the Tulcea Tribunal allowed the request of the prosecutors and ruled the issuance of an arrest warrant for the defendant for 29 days.

The evidence gathered up to this moment of the criminal investigation, led to the conclusion that, on the evening of 22.11.2010, around 2300 hours, the defendant (father to a minor child aged 7 months), irritated with the cry of the child, grabbed his feet and slammed him several times on the bed. Therefore, the child’s head hit the back of the bed, which led to his entering a coma. The forensic examination determined that the life of the minor aged 7 month had been put in danger through the meningeal hemorrhage which requested a complex medical treatment in the hospital.

After this episode, the defendant evaded prosecution and was tracked down by the authorities on 09.11.2011 when he was held in custody by the prosecutors for a period of 24 hours.

Investigations are underway in order to clarify all the factual circumstances and establish the criminal liability.
