PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

On September 15, 2011, prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Galaţi Local Court submitted a request for the pretrial arrest of the defendant MIHAI LIVIU VALENTIN for rape. The magistrates from the Galaţi Local Court granted the prosecutors’ request and ordered a 29-day pretrial arrest of the defendant.

The evidence produced in this case so far has shown that, on the evening of September 14, 2011, around 10:00 p.m., the defendant, taking advantage of his friendship with the injured party M.L. (aged 15), the fact that the latter was accompanying him on a bike ride on the outskirts of the city of Galaţi but also of the fact that M.L. was under the effect of the vapors from an adhesive substance (glue) he had inhaled, had sexual intercourse with the minor.

Investigations are carried out to clarify all the actual circumstances and to determine the legal liability.
