PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

The prosecutors within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Galați Tribunal requested the court of law, on 14.11.2011, to order the provisional arrest of the defendant LUNGU MARICEL (held in custody) for having committed the offenses of illegal deprivation of liberty and rape.

The magistrates of the Galați Tribunal allowed the request of prosecutors and ruled the issuance of a provisional arrest warrant for him for 29 days.

The evidence gathered up to this moment of the criminal investigation led to the conclusion that, on the evening of 11/12.11.2011, the defendant accosted the underage injured party (aged 13 years and 7 months) whom he took to his house. Under these circumstances, the defendant hit the injured party with an axe handle, a belt, as well as with his feet and fists, after which he had sexual intercourse with her. After consummation of the sexual act, the injured party was coerced, by threats, to remain in the house of the defendant until the next day, when she managed to run, taking advantage of the fact that he had gone out of the house for a short period.

Investigations are underway in order to clarify all the factual circumstances and establish the criminal liability.

The magistrates of the Drobeta Turnu-Severin Court of Law allowed the proposal of the prosecutors and ruled the issuance of provisional arrest warrants for the defendants.

The evidence gathered in the case up to this procedural moment revealed the fact that, on the evening of 01.11.2011, around 19:30, the defendants had sexual intercourses with the injured party R.D. against her will, in the car belonging to the defendant Stamatin Ionuț-Răzvan.

Also, the defendant Cojocaru Flavius-Ovidiu asked the injured party to give him her mobile phone, using as a pretext the fact that he wanted to check the messages, and after she had given it to him, he refused to give it back to her and misappropriated it.
