PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

On October 7, 2011 prosecutors from the Galaţi Tribunal submitted to Court a request for the pretrial arrest of the defendant CĂLIN ION (in detention) for rape.

The magistrates from the Galaţi Tribunal granted the prosecutors’ request and ordered the arrest of the defendant for 29 days.

The evidence produced so far in the case revealed that, between September 2010 and October 2011, the defendant engaged in repeated sexual intercourse with the injured party C.N. aged 10, taking advantage of the latter’s incapacity to express her will and using physical threats both against her and the members of the family.

Investigations are carried out to clarify all the circumstances of the case.
