PRESS RELEASE

The Public Information and Press Relations Bureau within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

On September 8, 2011, prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Maramureş Tribunal closed the indictment for the prosecution of the defendant Maria NEMEŞ (under pretrial detention) for first-degree murder.

        The evidence produced so far by the investigation has revealed that on July 21, 2011, the defendant Maria Nemeş gave birth to a baby girl at her home, without any medical assistance. She then killed the baby, packed the body in a nylon bag and buried it in the garden of her house.

        The file has been forwarded to the Maramureş Tribunal which has jurisdiction over the case.
