The Public Information and Press Relations Office within the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice is authorized to bring to public knowledge the following:

The Prosecutor General of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Mr. Tiberiu-Mihail Nişu, had a work meeting with FBI Director, Mr. James B. Comey, yesterday, March the 3rd, at the headquarters of the institution.

The US official was also accompanied by: Mr. Chuck Rosenberg, senior counselor to the FBI Director, Mr. Erik K. Barnhart, special assistant to the FBI Director and Mr. Russel Ashenden, FBI legal attaché.

The Public Ministry was also represented by the Head of the Anticorruption National Directorate, Ms. Laura Codruşa Kövesi, and by the Head of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism, Ms. Elena Georgiana Hosu.

During the discussions on priority domains of cooperation between the Romanian and US parties – fight against corruption, organized crime and cyber-crime – the prosecutor general of Romania stressed the fact that the Public Ministry appreciates the strategic partnership with the US, including in the area of law enforcement institutions, as being extremely important for our country. Mr. Tiberiu-Mihail Nişu assured the US official that Romania has irreversibly engaged in the fight against corruption, organized crime, cyber-crime and terrorism, and also that the Public Ministry is a reliable, credible partner, with a body of responsible, honest, professionally well-trained prosecutors.

During the meeting, the FBI Director, Mr. James B. Comey, congratulated the prosecutor general of Romania for the results achieved by the Romanian prosecutors in the fight against corruption, organized crimes and cyber-crime. At the same time, the US official thanked the leadership of the Public Ministry for the manner in which the Romanian prosecutors involved in the fight against crime.

At the end of the meeting, the FBI Director awarded Ms. Ioana Albani, prosecutor, Head of the Service for the prevention of and fight against cyber-crime within the DIICOT, a plate as a token of recognition of the merits in the fight against cross-border cyber-crime.
